Pluvial episode was a planetary event that happened during the Carnian period, causing a major change in the global climate. It influenced significant changes. A continuous rainfall that lasted for millions of years, caused by massive volcanism and which led to global warming and endless deluge, was regenerating and terribly destructive at the same time.

A performance piece was conceived thinking about the depths of geological time, about water and about grief. It reflected on the solid things becoming a liquid matter, about mountains and heavens merging into one continuous stratum, about involuntary moments of vanishing and about waiting many lifetimes for the tempest to end.

The plot was a fracture of a dream, or a myth, or maybe a distant memory emerging from the depth of time. An old, forgotten, mythical entity, remembering the Pluvial episode, engaging in a ritualistic practice, telling the story in continuous, repetitive song and whispering in tongues. The act featured a glass container with water, natural pebbles, sea shells and a glass sculpture, produced in slumping technique in the laboratory of glass at FBAUP. The costume consisted of a custom-made, painted and embroidered blouse and a headpiece, with floating, tentacle-like ribbons and strings, glowing in a black light illumination. The moving water reflections on the walls, created an allusion to being underwater. The performance happened in an old swimming pool’s dressing room, paved with tiles which added natural reverb and echo to the voice. It took part of the Circuitos event, organised by Galeria Municipal do Porto and supported by PLAKA Porto.
